Course Description
NOTE: 1 Unit courses do not fulfill the Jan Term Requirement.
You're curious about science, medicine, or how the body works, but you don't know exactly why yet, or what that curiosity could turn into. Sometimes you don't know what you're interested in until you've actually experienced it.
This course is built around that idea. You'll get to explore an ambulance and the equipment inside it, get hands-on access to real health and training spaces most students never see, and dig into the day-to-day reality of a wide range of healthcare careers you might not have considered. Along the way, you'll earn a real, nationally recognized BLS certification, short for Basic Life Support, essentially a more advanced, healthcare provider-level version of standard CPR training. It's a credential commonly required on day one for many entry-level healthcare jobs, such as phlebotomist, dental assistant, medical assistant, and EMT.
This course is for students who want to dabble and discover, not for those who have already committed to one specific pre-med path. It is aimed primarily at underclassmen, but open to any student regardless of year or major.
No prior science background or declared major needed, and no prerequisites.
Eight sessions, combining practitioner visits, hands-on certification, and exploration of a wide range of healthcare careers.
