Course Description
Storytelling is a deeply human ritual, and those who have the power to tell memorable stories—in literature or film, in science or business, or in everyday conversation—have the power to move hearts and minds. This course will focus on how storytellers around the world use a variety of tools and techniques to harness and use this power. By closely studying the shapes, beats and tones of stories across multiple mediums and cultures, we will sharpen our ability to see these tools at work. Through daily collaborations and messy experiments, such as improvisations, role playing, brainbuster games and more, we will upside-down our sense of story. During the final week, we will put these techniques into practice, honing a project or performance that demonstrates the power of our own storytelling for a public audience. Guided through this process by experienced storytellers, students will learn that one secret to unlocking creativity is to embrace a playful sense of wonder and possibility.
